Karunamati talks about her work with the Green Tara Trust. The trust works to improve maternal healthcare in rural Nepal. Over 4,500 Neapli women die in childbirth each year due to lack of adequate medical care. One in thirteen chidren die before the age of five because of hypothermia, infectious diseases and poor nuitrition. In Nepalese society women and girls are not given sufficient food or medical care because of their gender. The Green Tara Trust is on of the social projects that Windhorse supports.

2012 ARCHIVE - Update on Green Tara Trust

Last year we donated money to the Green Tara Trust, which is a charity that helps promote better health in women and children in Nepal. In this photo a mother's group in Nawalparasi prioritises the issues that are affecting them. As they cannot read or write they are drawing their concerns as part of the programmed planning process. These concerns are the need for a decent road, alleviating and eradicating diarrhea, typoid and malaria and gender discrimination.

2006 ARCHIVE - Java Earthquake Relief Donation

In May 2006 Java was hit by strong earthquakes of 6.2. Over 5,782 people were killed,39,299 were injured, huge numbers of homes were flattened, leaving 1.5 million people homeless. People from the Yogyakarta area fled inland fearing a tsunami, which fortunately never occurred. The cause was most likely tectonic. A later earthquake in July 2006, off the west coast of Java, registered 7.7 and did cause a tsunami of three metre high waves to hit the coastline. Fatalities were small due to the widespread evacuation because of the earlier quake.

Windhorse, as one of Sumiati's biggest customers, was contacted to see it they could help financially with relief and reconstruction. Of course we wished to respond, initially by supporting the earthquake relief, but over the following months and years to fund the repair of schools in the area, as 148 schools were destroyed and 537 were damaged as a result of the quake.

2011 ARCHIVE - Social Project - Kupu Kupu - Bali

Windhorse has been supporting Kupu Kupu  Foundation for a number of years. Donating money to improve teaching facilities, build buildings etc for these disabled children in Bali. This year we have given them £5,000 for them to use where they think appropriate. Judging by the following letter from Begonia, who runs the school, she intends to use the money on the general running costs of the existing centre in Bangli..(The Bob she refers to is Vajraketu)

What a great news Bob!!! thanks a lot for make my day, my week and my month!!! you have this expression in english yap???
I am soooo happy to know that you are going to continue suppporting our projects this year as well.
Bob, I think we could use that money to run the Center in Bangli for one year, in fact as soon you send us the money I think I will put that money on the bank account we have for the Center in Bangli.
I am still remember when we were doing Yoga together with part of the students in Bangli and one of the students who was teaching us got so enthusiastic and did not finish the yoga class (Nengah)!!!!!
Two of our young friends with physically disabilities got married last month and one of the couples already will have a child soon!!!!
Bob, God bless you and all the people from Windhorse company yap!!!

All the best
Thanks a lot
