2011 ARCHIVE - Show Of Hands - Painting Project

From the 22nd November 2010, after Sangha Day, Vidyavajra has been engaged in a large painting project for the business. Initially it was part of a series of Sangha / community building initiatives, encouraging the expression of gratitude or appreciation to people, past or present, who've contributed in to the character and success of the business. This involved Photo Walls where old photos of people and the business could be stuck up, Post Boxes and 'Gratitude' Walls where written expressions could be privately or publicly posted. The painting project, entitled A Show Of Hands, involved collecting 108 hand-outlines from a broad section of people working for Windhorse. These were then assembled on a large painting, 5 x 11/2 metres, that was completed just after Parinirvana Day - 18th February 2011.

This is the largest painting Vidyavajra has ever attempted. Work on it has been spread over three months, and required over 100+ hours of work to collect, paint and complete all 108 hand-outlines. Our hands are a thing we hold in common, they are also what distinguishes us from each other. The Show Of Hands hanging is an attempt in a very simple way to visually represent the individual and collective efforts of those who work at Windhorse. The completed painting now hangs facing the entrance to the Warehouse.
