1980's ARCHIVE - When Windhorse Was Just A Market Stall

In the 1980's Windhorse was just a market stall, largely run by a handful of enthusiastic Buddhists, connected with the then fledgling  London Buddhist Centre. With very little experience of running a business, let alone a Right Livelihood business, they made mistakes, learning what to do and what not to do as they went along. The business grew at a quicker rate than anyone expected, and through having no capital to draw on, found itself stumbling from one cash-flow crisis to another. At some point Kulananda and Vajraketu joined and some knowledge of basic business systems was gradually applied. There was no warehouse as such, Windhorse was run from a terraced house in Old Ford Road, which also doubled as a Buddhist community. These photographs were taken during this period, some of whom were involved in the development of Windhorse, others were part of the enthusiastic Sangha around the LBC at this time.
