2011 ARCHIVE - Creating A Lotus Mandala - Part 1

This Creating A Lotus Mandala Project ( or CALM for short ) is a project to paint a lotus border all the way around the current Stupa Area, creating a visually defined sacred space.  Lotus, Vajra and Fire mandalas are traditional ways of symbolically creating  a realm that protects and dedicates an area to ritual and spiritual endeavour.  It is part of the vision for this project that in the future a Vajra and a Fire border will also be created.

CALM will be a collectively based project executed over the two Right Livelihood Friday Meetings, prior to the date commemorating the Buddha's Enlightenment on 17th May. This requires some advance preparation, so Vidyavajra has been drawing out and spray painting a base line, putting in corner lotuses and doing a trial strip of stencilled lotuses. Plus, working out how everything can be done to maximise involvement in the creation of this lotus border.

These are some photographs of these preliminary preparations
